INWARD PLACE
Our childhood “places” were secret gardens where playful imaginations ran wild; enchanted dreamlike spaces with magical qualities we carried with us into adulthood. Captured in the following vibrant landscapes are memories of these special childhood spaces, which, in adulthood, carry strong physical, spiritual and psychological meaning for us.
Approached in a scientific way, these large scale works are deliberate and methodical. Although they capture observed scenery, these paintings take shape as “gardens of the mind” that bear a deliberate, yet derived resemblance to a particular location. Depth is created from countless layers of color that illuminate these works both physically and symbolically. Unity in the compositions is interrupted by the careful culling of details of the observed space, which forces the viewer to pause to allow the brain to process what the eye is seeing.
In their final form, these works of art strive to illicit a personal and emotional response, a meditation or reflection that led us to this particular place in time.
